FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Two of the Fort St. John Northern Strikers U14 and U12 girls teams were in St. Paul, Alberta last weekend, competing in the Alberta Tier IV Provincials.
U14 Girls finished 5th out of 10 teams, and played the entire weekend without substitutes. Though the team was also short-handed going into the tournament, due to injuries and prior commitments, they managed to go undefeated all weekend.
The girls won their first game against the host team from St. Paul 3-2. The second and final game of the team’s round robin ended in a 1-1 draw against Sherwood Park. In the game to decide 5th and 6th place in the tourney, the U14 Northern Strikers were victorious, beating the Ardrossan Crimson Knights by the score of 4-3.
The U12 Girls team began their tournament against seven other teams with a bit of a setback: their first game was called early on account of lightning, meaning the team had to make up a game over the next two days. In their first game against St. Paul, the girls ended up losing a close 4-3 game, before bouncing back and hammering Edson 7-1. The girls continued the dominance of the round robin, shutting out Lacombe 6-0. On Sunday, the U12 team faced off against a tough Stettler opponent, but managed to hang on to take home the Bronze medal after a convincing 3-1 win.
