Grande Prairie man charged after month-long prostitution investigation

GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. – A man in Grande Prairie has been charged with several offences following a month-long RCMP investigation.

Back in late June, allegations were brought forward to police that a man was targeting vulnerable and high risk teenage boys in the Grande Prairie area in an attempt to have them participate in the sex trade. On Sunday, July 24th, police were conducting surveillance on the suspect when they observed what they believed was going to result in the victimization of a teenager. Police intervened and rescued the young man, while also arresting the suspect without incident.

56 year-old Irving Tobias Oldford has been charged with three counts of procuring prostitution of someone under the age of 18, and one count of sexual assault.

Oldford has been released from police custody, but is subject to several conditions and is not to have contact with anyone under the age of 18 unless accompanied by another adult. He is scheduled to appear in a Grande Prairie provincial court on August 3rd.

Police say that they are making attempts to identify any additional victims and would like anyone who has had contact with or has information about Oldford to contact the Grande Prairie RCMP Detachment at (780) 830-5701. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1.800.222.8477 (TIPS).
