FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Two teams from Fort St. John Minor Lacrosse made the first-ever tournament appearance for a team from the Energetic City this past weekend.

The Fort St. John Novice and Midget lacrosse teams were in Edmonton over the Canada Day weekend to compete in the Capital Cup tournament at the South Edmonton Soccer Centre. The teams also got to unveil their new uniforms at the tournament.

The Novices took to the floor for their first game on Friday at 12:00 PM, facing off against the Edmonton Warriors Novice squad. The team fell 11-3 against the Warriors, and again fell 11-3 in their second game to the Edmonton Blues. On Saturday, the team lost a third game, albeit by a much closer 8-6 against the Lacoka team from Ponoka. Though the team ended up losing their final game against the Edmonton Wizards 11-0, the players didn’t let that spoil their weekend, saying in the locker room after their final game: “it’s not about winning it’s about having fun.”

The Midget team faced two tough opponents in their first two tournament games, losing to Blackfalds 14-5, and Lacoka 14-1. The Midgets looked to rally back in Game 3 against Parkland, losing a close game by the score of 5-3. In their final playoff game, the Midgets once again faced off against Parkland, losing 3-2.
