ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – A total of 21 athletes from across the North Peace have been arriving in Abbotsford for the past few days to prepare to compete in the BC Summer Games.
Chase Hennessey and Emma Lang will be competing in several Track & Field and Athletics events, which take place at the Rotary Stadium from Friday morning at 8:45 until Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
Charlie Lake’s Jesse McArthur and Isaac Wagner are set to hit the links competing in Golf. The pair are set to tee off for their first round of competition with other players from Zone 7 (North-West) tomorrow at the Ledgeview Golf Club on Mt.Sumas between 12:54 and 1:30 p.m.
Moving on to Canada’s national game, Travis Domeij, Max Dobson, and Kyle Robertson are representing the BC Peace Region on the Zone 8 box lacrosse team. The team, comprised primarily of players from Prince George, will be opening the box lacrosse tournament at the Games, taking on a tough Zone 3 Fraser Valley team on Friday morning at 9:00. The team’s second and third games are on Saturday, once again playing at 9:00 a.m. against the Thompson-Okanagan, and at 1:30 p.m. against the team from the Kootenays.
Peter McAdie and Cayden Frenett will also be playing lacrosse at the Games, albeit the version of the sport played on a grass field. The field lacrosse tournament for the Zone 8 team begins tomorrow morning at 10:00 against the FraserRiver team, before taking on Vancouver Island-Central Coast at 2:30 p.m.
Fort St. John’s Quinlan Snider and Charlie Lake’s Alexander Fowler are representing the area on the Zone 8 Boys soccer team, while Kenzie Chilcott, Emma Close, Leigh Hedges, Jordynn McPherson, and Claire Turner represent the North Peace on the Girls team. The boys play on Friday at 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and again for their third game Saturday at 2:00 in the afternoon. The girls meanwhile, will take to the pitch first thing Friday morning at 9:00, with Game 2 at 2:00 p.m., and Game 3 on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
The five Inconnu swim team athletes: Kiara Semeniuk, David Shipalesky, Nicolas Eyles, Cameron Louie and Griffin Ternier-Smith are all competing in the pool in a number of events all day Friday and Saturday. The swimming events go until 12:15 p.m. on Sunday before the Games’ Closing Ceremonies.
The Peace River North area’s lone Volleyball player; Daelyn Jeffers and the rest of the Zone 8 Girls Indoor Volleyball team take to the hardwood courts Friday morning at 10:20 for Game #1, before playing two more games that afternoon. The team will also be playing three games on Saturday, start times depend on the team’s placing against the Fraser River, Vancouver Island-Central Coast, and Vancouver-Coastal in Pool B.
