DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – A serious motor vehicle incident claimed the life of a motorcyclist in Dawson Creek yesterday morning.
At 11:44 a.m. yesterday, a member of the Dawson Creek RCMP happened upon a serious collision that had occurred at the intersection of the Alaska Highway and 15th Avenue.
Upon arrival, the officer noted a woman providing CPR to the motorcyclist, who was thrown from his ride in the crash. After calling for assistance, the officer then provided medical assistance to the man. Despite efforts, the rider succumbed to his injuries later in hospital. His name has not been released.
While the investigation into the collision is still in its early stages, police believe that they have arrived at a preliminary cause of the crash. According to a release from RCMP Cpl. Dave Tyreman, a cube van was making a left turn at the same time that an RV was making a left turn in the opposite direction. Hidden from view of the van, the motorcyclist, who was travelling straight through the intersection, struck the right rear corner of the van.
Members of the Dawson Creek RCMP, as well a Fort St John Traffic Reconstructionist are still on scene as of this morning. The Independent Investigations Office of BC has also been notified. The Alaska Highway was closed in both directions yesterday, with an unknown time of reopening.
