FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – While the property tax deadline has come and gone, a lot of people have yet to pay at all.
8,889 Tax Notices were printed mid-May and mailed. The deadline was July 4th. At the end of July 4th, the City collected 85.99% of $50,720,065.17.
According to documents released by the City, there is 14.1% left outstanding, which equates to $7,106,742.01 and $589,614.08 in penalty fees that are still due. Yesterday at a City Council meeting, the City said it was down to roughly 12%, which is still above the total in 2015.
In 2015, there was 10.57% of outstanding taxes on the end of the due date. The collection rate is down 3.44% from 2015.
According to the City, they also received 8 new Deferment applications. In 2015, they only had 1.
