GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. – Police in Grande Prairie are asking for help in identifying a suspect they believe was involved in an alleged arson.
RCMP and the Grande Prairie Fire Department attended an arson early this morning at a residence in the area of 96th Street and Hillcrest Drive at 2:30 a.m.
Police say the back part of the home was badly damaged but the fire department was able to get the fire under control and save the rest of the home. There was a family home at the time of the blaze, but they managed to get out safely.
In the early part of the investigation, it appears that the fire was deliberately set.
Police are now looking for a male that was observed filling a jerry can at a local convenience store prior to the arson.
The male is believed to be: white, 20-30 years of age, with a brush cut and was wearing jeans, and a black DC hooded sweat shirt.
Anyone with information, or who recognizes the suspect, is asked to call Grande Prairie RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
