Spirit River RCMP Member Nearly Run Over

UPDATE: During the incident, the officer discharged their firearm at the suspect. No injuries were sustained by either the officer or the suspect.

Yesterday evening, police located the suspect vehicle, and arrested the suspect, whose identity has not been released, a short time later.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the events that led up to the discharge of the officer’s firearm.

SPIRIT RIVER, A.B. – RCMP in Spirit River were called to investigate an impaired driving complaint on June 8th at around 3:00 PM.

A member of the detachment observed a black Dodge 3500 pick up truck bearing licence plate VES 974 driving on Range Road 61. The suspect vehicle turned around and drove at the RCMP cruiser colliding with it.  The officer got out of his police SUV, at which point the suspect drove at the member before fleeing the area.
