FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Despite reopening yesterday afternoon, the closure of Highway 97 after last week’s rains has caused the Fort St. John Minor Lacrosse Association to cancel this year’s playoff appearance.
Four lacrosse team from the Energetic City were scheduled to go to Prince George for the final weekend of action in the 2016 lacrosse season. FSJMLA President Annika Hedican said in an email to Energetic City earlier this week that FSJ scrapped plans to go to their league playoffs this weekend in Prince George as it wasn’t reasonable to ask parents to drive ten or more hours through Alberta to get there.
Hedican says that it is disheartening to have the season end this way, adding “We are very appreciative for all the support we have received throughout the season and all we can do is look ahead to the future.”
On a brighter note, the Novice and Midget teams will be heading to Edmonton July 1st -3rd for the Capital Cup Tournament. The tournament will be the first appearance ever for a Fort St. John lacrosse team.
