FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Justin Mah and Reese Cowie have been named as North Peace Secondary School’s Class 2016 Valedictorian and Class Historian.
Justin Mah was named Valedictorian for his achievement of obtaining the highest academic chievement amongst Grade 12 students at the school this year. Mah said that having a love of sciences, particularly Biology and Chemistry, has allowed him to excel academically in his final year of high school. Though the highest ranked academically, Reese Cowie also has been achieving high academic marks this year, sharing a love of Biology with her colleague while also enjoying Language courses.
The selection process for the Class Historian isn’t quite as straightforward, as explained by Vice Principal Jason Gill. According to Gill, Cowie was chosen based on a vote from her fellow grads, as well as by members of the school’s administration. Cowie herself told Energeticcity.ca that while Mah might be more well-known for his superior intellect, the Class Historian’s job is to represent the entire student body at the ceremony, and bring up the highlights of the class of 2016’s three years of Secondary education. For his part, Mah says that he’ll still be sure to inject a decent amount of humour into his speech.
The pair will both be giving convocation speeches to their fellow grads at NPSS’s graduation ceremonies on June 17th.
