CALGARY, ALBERTA – The National Energy Board is recommending approval for NOVA Gas Transmissions NGTL System Expansion Project from the Federal Government.
The board released the final report today and listed 48 conditions that must be met before the project goes any further.
5 of the conditions in the report are specific to the protecting and restoring the caribou habitat.
The project also runs through through three boreal woodland caribou ranges. Boreal woodland caribou are listed as “threatened” on schedule 1 of the species at risk act according to the release from the NEB.
Also required by federal law, the board has also submitted the report with its recommendation on the project to the Minister of Natural Resources Canada. The total estimated cost of the project is $1.29 billion.
