FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Ministry of Transportation says roads are being assessed and crews will determine when they can re-open again.

Kate Mukasa, Public Affairs Officer with the Ministry says Highway 2 and Highway 97 are the most important right now.

Ministry staff are working closely with local governments and emergency personnel to monitor the conditions of provincial roads.

Damage to the roads is being assessed on an ongoing basis. At this point, there are sections of Highway 97 between McKenzie and Chetwynd and at Rolla Road between Highway 49 and Highway 2 near Dawson Creek that have been washed out. The road is also flooded in sections throughout the region. Crews continue to assess the damage.

Roads will be open to traffic as soon as highway maintenance and engineering personal can repair and confirm that they’re safe for the travelling public. We will work as quickly as possible to repair the damage from the floods when we’re able to do so.

We ask that the public go to drivebc.ca for all the latest updates on roads or call 1-800-550-4997 for highway conditions.
