Man Charged In Grande Prairie Break and Enter

GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. – One man has been charged with a number of offences following an unusual theft from the Prairie Mall.

On Thursday, June 9 at approximately 3:00 AM, Grande Prairie RCMP responded to the Prairie Mall to assist All Peace Security with a man who was observed on video breaking into stores and kiosks. Police believe the man hid inside the mall until after the building was closed.

In an effort to avoid capture, the male sprayed security staff with bear spray and fled the scene. Police Dog Services attended the scene, and the dog quickly tracked and located the suspect approximately 150 metres away from the mall on 99th Street. 27 year-old Prince George resident Richard Stairs has been charged with five charges, including: Break and Enter, Assault with a Weapon, and Theft Over $5,000.

Stairs is due to appear in a Grande Prairie court on Monday, June 13th.
