CHETWYND, B.C. – The Chetwynd International Chainsaw Carving Competition has come and gone for another year.
The contest is one of the largest of its kind in the world, and featured carvers from as far away as Denmark and the UK. Reigning 2-year champion and Oregon native Chris Foltz wasn’t able to make it to the competition this year, allowing for a new champion.
Mike Winia from Ontario, the last-minute addition to the competition to replace Foltz ended up taking 3rd place for his Lion carving. Last year’s 3rd place winner Jeff Samudosky placed in 2nd for his Gargoyle carving, while Chad Danczyk was crowned champion of the contest for his carving of two cranes. Carvers Choice went to Tommy Craggs’ Medusa carving, while Joerg Jung took the People’s Choice Award for his Moose relief carving.
