FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Trails in the Community Forest in Fort St. John are still closed after recent wind and rain damage.
According to the City, a number of trees have fallen across trails and a further assessment of standing trees will be needed to determine when the Community Forest will re-open. With the heavy rains the earth has become destabilized and further trees may be at risk of falling. For the safety of the public they are asked to stay out of the park completely until the debris can be cleared and a thorough inspection completed.
The City will contract an arborist to do an inspection of the trees in the park. “The process of clearing away the fallen trees and clearing out any that are in danger of falling could take weeks,” stated Grounds Manager Chris Murphy.
Due to the wet soft ground, the sports fields will remain closed for the weekend. It is expected they will be ready to use again on Tuesday morning if the weather remains dry.
