City Of Fort St. John Wants Your Opinion

.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John wants the public’s opinion on the creation of a community vision to guide decision making down the road.

Over this year, there will be plenty of chances for citizens to contribute to a new Official Community Plan (OCP) for the community, called “Our Vision Our Future.”

The OCP sets out how the City will provide services and facilities, address environmental issues, and develop or maintain utility and transportation systems. This plan will also impact quality of life living for those in the future.

Mayor Lori Ackerman says it is important to have public opinion.

“Fort St John’s Official Community Plan is the vision for the community that we, as citizens of the community, seek to create.  As we go through the process of developing our OCP, it is essential that your voice is heard on what you want to preserve, enhance, change or improve.”

The areas of focus primarily are:

• Recent changes to legislation

• Governance

• Infrastructure services (roads, water & sewer)

• Management of environmentally sensitive and hazardous areas

• Groundwater protection

• Agricultural Land Reserve

• Community facilities

• Land development

• Potential growth associated with developments in the region (e.g. Site C, LNG) • Arts and Culture

There will be many different ways to voice your opinion. There will be workshops, surveys, booths at community events, and special graffiti walls.

The walls will be set up at the following locations:

• Pomeroy Sports Centre

• Whole Wheat & Honey

• North Peace Cultural Centre

• North Peace Senior Secondary School

• City Hall lobby

• Fort St. John Seniors Hall Branch #58”

• North Peace Leisure Pool

The current OCP was last approved in 2011. The Government Act recommends updating or replacing the OCP every 5 years.
