FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The city of Fort St. John has announced that there will be some slight changes to the upcoming Canada Day parade route.

On Friday July 1st from approximately 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, 100th Street between 93rd 96th Avenues will be closed for the parade, as well as for the Classic Cruiser Show ‘N’ Shine.

In a change from last year, crews will also be closing 100th Street between 96th and 100th Avenues from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM to help increase safety to parade participants and spectators alike. The city’s Recreation Programmer Marissa Jordan says that the extra road closure is being done to alleviate the historic problem of vehicles that attempt to cross the parade route when presented with a gap between floats. She says that city wants to increase awareness not only of the extra road closures, but also of the parade itself, which will be happening from approximately 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Jordan reiterated that motorists are advised to make alternate plans that morning, and to plan around the round closures.

City crews will be placing a notification letter as well as ‘No Parking’ signs on the sidewalks of 100th Street on Thursday before moving them onto the road on the morning of the parade.

The city apologises in advance for any inconvenience that this may cause. Any questions can be forwarded to Marissa Jordan, Recreation Programmer at (250) 794-3262 or via e-mail: mjordan@fortstjohn.ca.
