FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Dave Conway, the BC Hydro Community Relations Manager for the Site C Dam Project has issued a preliminary statement addressing a warning letter, dated May 26th, from the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency.
As reported earlier, following an inspection at the project site in late April, an enforcement officer has found he has reasonable grounds to believe that Hydro is not totally in compliance with the federal Environmental Assessment Act.
Michel Vitou, the CEAA Manager of Compliance and Enforcement found that none of the air quality monitoring stations was collecting data for several substances, including carbon dioxide, as required by federal regulations.
Noting his warning is neither a legal proceeding nor a judgement, he gave Hydro until the end of this work week, to submit comments regarding it.
In his letter, Mr. Vitou promised to examine Hydro comments, and determine whether to maintain the warning, amend it, or withdraw it.
