CHETWYND, B.C. – We’re getting reports this morning that Chetwynd is experiencing a flash flood after a thunderstorm rolled through the town this morning.

According to a source from local radio station Peace FM, the storm began to dump rain on the town shortly before 6:00 AM, dropping an estimated 20 mm of rain over the course of an hour. Photos posted on Facebook show large puddles of standing water and streams on the Highway 97 boulevards near the railroad tracks that run through the town.

Only two weeks ago, a large low pressure system dumped 138 mm of rain on the town over 2 days, washing out Highway 97 west of Chetwynd in a number of sections.

We’ll have updates to this story as they become available.
