FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for both the North and South Peace regions of the B.C. Peace.

Heavy rain is expected to start later this evening throughout the Peace Region. Residents could see up to 60 to 80 millimetres of rain before the storm ends on Thursday.

See the full warning below.

4:09 AM PDT Tuesday 14 June 2016

Rainfall warning in effect for:

  • B.C. North Peace River
  • B.C. South Peace River

A long episode of rain, at times heavy, is expected.

Heavy rain will begin in the B.C. Peace District this evening.

An Alberta low will deepen and move northwards today, spilling a very moist circulation over the B.C. Peace.

The rain won’t taper off until Thursday afternoon, leaving two day rainfall amounts of 60 to 80 millimetres. Higher rainfall amounts are likely over communities on the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains including Hudson’s Hope, Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge. In these areas two day rainfall totals could approach 100 millimetres.

If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.

Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to or tweet reports to #BCStorm.
