This holiday season, all of our Supporters are entered to win an $800 Shopping Spree Giveaway!

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Rainy weather across the Peace Region this week has forced organisers of the Big Bam Vertical Slam to do some route tweaking after a part of the route destabilised on Thursday.

Part of the hillside near the two-kilometre mark of the five kilometre course slumped after heavy rains fell on Wednesday and Thursday. Race coordinator Laurie Cardinal said that the affected part of the course consisted of loose soil, which combined with the recent heavy rainfall slid a short distance down the hill. After assessing the area, Cardinal says that organisers have changed the course route to bypass the middle part of the hill.

The course change means that hikers participating in the 5 kilometre race will have an extra 230 metres added, however the changes won’t impact the distance for the 10 km event, which has been shortened slightly, or the 2.3 km course which is mostly separate from the other course.

The first annual Big Bam Vertical Slam takes place on Saturday, beginning at 8:00 AM.
