Site C Conveyor Belt Aims To Reduce Noise and Emissions

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Instead of having noisy trucks kicking up dirt and taking up road space, Site C will use a conveyor belt to transport materials from the 85th Avenue Industrial Lands to the dam site area.

David Conway with B.C. Hydro says the reason for choosing a conveyor belt over trucks, was environmental and with residents in mind.

“The conveyor system was selected over truck transport because it will reduce traffic on local roads, create fewer greenhouse gas emissions, and result in less noise and dust compared to truck transport.”

The conveyor will be covered up in residential areas and security fencing will also be installed to prevent injuries.  The conveyor will cross Old Fort Road and 240 Road.

With the current construction schedule, the belt would be removed in 2022.
