FORT ST. JOHN B.C. – The Siphon Creek Wildfire has grown but there still is hope it can be contained.

The fire is now only at a 25% containment. Erin Catherall with the BC Wildfire Service says it’s because of the growth of the fire recently.

“This drop in containment is because of the growth that has occurred over the last few days.”

While there has been growth, Catherall says the size isn’t as big as they thought it would be with the heavy winds received yesterday in the area.

The fire now sits at 75,400 hectares. B.C. is up to 66, 200 hectares while Alberta is at19,200 hectares.

Catherall says with the wet weather that is supposedly coming to the region, it should help crews in the fight against the fire however, they are focused on doing what they can while the weather is still dry and hot right now.
