FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Siphon Creek fire has now reached 17,000 hectares in size.

Fire Information Officer Noelle Kekula confirmed that 77 firefighters are on this fire, and nine helicopters with nine units of heavy equipment on site.

The fire has crossed over to the Albertan border, which B.C.’s firefighters are mostly assigned to. This decision was made to give Alberta as many resources as it can have fighting the fire in Fort McMurray.

Kekula said the winds are predicted to go northeast later today.

Two evacuation orders are in place right now in the Peace River Regional District, near the Beatton Airport Road fire and the Siphon Creek fire. No part of the City of Fort St. John is under evacuation alert or order, all of the evacuation alerts and orders are in the Peace River Regional District.
