OTTAWA, ON – The government has announced a three-member joint panel to review Teck Resources Limited’s proposed Frontier Oil Sands Mine project in Northern Alberta.
Jim Ellis, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Alberta Energy Regulator and The Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change made the announcement today.
Alex Bolton will be the chair of the panel. Robert McManus and William (Bill) Klassen have been chosen as members of the panel.
With the Wildfire situation that ripped through Fort McMurray, the panel will have 3 more months to hand over its report.
The panel will take many factors into account.
“Under the Agreement, the Joint Review Panel will conduct a review of the environmental effects of the project, consider mitigation measures, determine whether the project is likely to cause significant adverse effects, and identify any follow-up programs required. The Joint Review Panel will also consider comments from the public and Indigenous groups that are received during the assessment.”
