FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A local realtor is offering free housing for Fort McMurray residents displaced by the fire, and is urging property owners and landlords to do the same.

Mitch Collins with Century 21 Real Estate in Fort St. John says that he has just a few units left, and started with almost a dozen when he began offering the suites for free.

With such a high vacancy rate in the Peace Region right now and empty suites a dime a dozen, Collins is now asking that other property owners consider offering their spaces to families in need.

“There’s a lot of vacant units sitting there right now,” Collins told Energeticcity.ca. “Why are we not filling them up with people that could really use them?”

The accommodations are one bedroom and two bedroom suites, some full houses, and some are even furnished.

Collins asks anyone looking for a place to stay to contact him at 250 262-9338, and he will work to arrange an accommodation.
