New Distracted Driving Fines Start Tomorrow In BC

FORT ST. JOHN B.C. – Just in case you forgot, the new distracted driving fines come into effect starting tomorrow.

Higher fines, more points against your license, and driving prohibitions for repeat offenders are now a reality.

The fine goes up to $368 (up from $167). You also receive 4 driver points instead of 3 against your licence.

First time offenders will now see a minimum of $543 dollars in financial penalties. A second offence will see you with a total of $888 dollars in penalties, and from there it keeps going up every time you get caught.

This year during the May Long Weekend, 264 tickets were handed out for distracted driving, up from 199 in 2015.

In 2014, distracted driving and not paying attention to the road killed 66 people and injured 630 more in BC.
