Grande Prairie RCMP investigating death after possible assault

GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. – Grande Prairie RCMP are investigating a possible assault that may have lead to the death of one man.

Saturday at 12:55 p.m., Grande Prairie RCMP were dispatched to a complaint of a traffic collision and possible assault in the parking lot of the Home Hardware.  A male exited the store and confronted a male who was interfering with his vehicle. During the confrontation, the vehicle owner attempted to apprehend the suspect as he attempted to flee in another vehicle.  As a result the vehicle owner was severely injured, resulting in him being airlifted to a hospital in Edmonton where he succumbed to his injuries.

Edmonton RCMP Major Crimes Unit, Forensic Identification and Grande Prairie GIS are currently investigating this matter.

The name of the deceased is not being released, pending notification of next of kin.  No additional information is available at this time.  The RCMP intend to issue an update as more becomes known by investigators.
