FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Crews fighting the Beatton Airport Road fire made good progress on the fire Friday.
Predictions of strong winds didn’t come true and crews were able to make progress on the fire and create ground guards and burn off fuel along the Alaska Highway.
The fire is still estimated to be 12,000 hectares in size.
According to spokesperson Emily Epp, the fire started to move to the east and away from Charlie Lake. The fire is still 50km away from Fort St. John.
The Evacuation order and an alert remain in place.
The Alaska Highway is still open in both direction but pilot cars will lead you through the area from Mile 72 to Mile 81.
