FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – School District 60 and BC Hydro have reached an agreement to create thirty seven new childcare spaces in the new Margaret “Ma” Murray Community School.

Hydro announced this morning that they will contribute $1.8 million to build the new childcare centre in the school, which is scheduled to open in the spring of 2018. Education Minister and Peace River South MLA Mike Bernier says that the funding agreement create much-needed childcare spaces to help local families that are working on the Site C Dam. Site C workers will have shared priority access to approximately half of the available spaces.

The childcare centre will have spaces for 25 3 to 5 year-old children and 12 spaces for infants.

The new childcare centre, which is one of the conditions of the dam’s environmental approval, will be owned and operated by the school district.
