FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – “Walk & Talk the Peace” is a movement founded to raise awareness and also reduce stigma against two of the most common mental illnesses: Depression and Anxiety.

Stan Fraser will be walking the Chetwynd, Hudson’s Hope, Fort St John, Dawson Creek and back to Chetwynd route starting on June 1, 2016 to raise awareness and reduce stigma.

Here is a list of places Stan will be. You are invited to join him along the way whenever it is safe to do so.

“He will be in Hudsons Hope on June 3 then continue on in the afternoon.

Fort St. John: June 4th, 2:10 pm He will be at the corner of the 269 Rd where it links up with the Clairmont Frontage Road to walk to Centenial Park where he will tell his story.

Taylor June 5 10:30 -12:30 he will be at the frontage road leading through Taylor and people are welcome to join him there for a walk and talk. After crossing the bridge he will be at Peace Island Park where a pot luck picnic (bring a dish) will happen and Stan will tell his story and others can also tell their stories if they like.”

On the movements Facebook page, Stan also shared his own struggles with Mental Illness.

“Hi, I’m Stan l am doing the Walk and Talk the Peace this June. Born 1957 into family of 13, I am the third oldest. As a father, son, brother, cousin, and friend l have come to know depression, anxiety and mental illness. I did not always understand or know what to do. As a parent not knowing how to help, you just wish you could take it away or give some piece of advice that could be the magic cure. When you see your child being afraid of everything it is difficult to witness. I have dealt with my own demons: shame, guilt, and failure are a part of it. This journey I’m embarking on, I hope, will bring understanding and reduce the stigma and shame of anxiety and depression.

Your stories, your hopes and dreams are important, as they bring strength and purpose to me during this walk. Please consider joining me: you can walk with me, send me your stories or join us at one of the planned stops for community events.

I depart Chetwynd on June 1st. On June 2nd I will be in Hudson Hope; June 4th in Fort St John; in Dawson Creek on June 7th; and ending in Chetwynd on June 11th.”
