FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Just under 400 customers have been without power since Thursday afternoon, and BC Hydro says it will take until later on today to get the power back on.
397 customers lost power around 3:30 p.m.yesterday, ranging from west of Montney to Wonowon. Power hasn’t been restored to any of the customers yet.
A spokesperson for the power utility, Bob Gammer, said the fire near Beatton Airport Road has scorched power poles, but he can’t confirm the extent of the damage at this time.
An evacuation order was issued for the area last night, and Gammer says it’s prevented crews from accessing the area right now.
“We are talking to the Wildfire Management Branch, and we’re going to hopefully see about getting in there at some point today, so we can work on getting the customers back on,” said BC Hydro spokesperson Bob Gammer.
He says they are hopeful they can at least get started on the process in restoring power, but can’t give an estimate as to when residents should expect power to be back on.
Updates on the power outages will be issued to BC Hydro’s website.
