FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — City council has approved the two-year tender for asphalt maintenance in 2016 and 2017 to Interoute Constructrion Ltd. DBA DGS Astro Paving. The tender has an option of going on for a third year.
They sent a submission in on April 7, and were the only bidders. Their submission was for $1,299,550.
The tender is for patching and repair in a range of spots across the city, and includes asphalt removal and replacement, overlay and intersection restoration as required.
“This capital program as well as the asphalt maintenance program completed by Public Works every year has extended the life span of streets and delayed the larger capital cost of rebuilding a street entirely,” reads an administrative report to council.
Council has directed staff to increase the scope of the project to ensure that the $2 million in this year’s capital budget is fully utilized.
Council has also decided for the scope of work to match the $2 million budget for asphalt maintenance, so staff have been directed to make sure the full budget is utilized by increasing the scope of work. This is the third consecutive year the budget has been set at this rate.
