GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. — The arrest of a Grande Prairie man, following an assault with bear spray, has led to numerous charges against him.
Last Monday night, around 11 p.m., RCMP received a call that a woman has been attacked with bear spray. The identity of their suspect was provided to police, but the man couldn’t be found right away.
This past Sunday afternoon, RCMP found the suspect in his vehicle at the Paradise Inn. When officers tried to apprehend the man, he put his vehicle in reverse and backed into a marked police cruiser, causing significant damage to the front end.
One officer was almost hit by the suspect, though no one received any injuries in the incident.
35-year-old Bob Friesen was arrested and charged with two counts of assaulting a police officer with a weapon, assault with a weapon, three counts of failing to comply with conditions of a recognizance and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
Frisen will appear in court in Grande Prairie on Wednesday, April 27.
