FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — On July 9, 96 Street in Fort St. John will be transformed into a 1,000-foot slip-n-slide.
Big Brothers Big Sisters announced today that they will be hosting the family event this summer, in a partnership with Fun City Sliders. The goal is to raise at least $20,000 to support the local programs — which run free of charge to local youth.
“One thing I think many in the community are unaware of, is that we receive absolutely no government funding or monies from the national Big Brothers Big Sisters movement,” explains Executive Director, Danielle Armstrong. “All of our programs operate based on funds raised locally within our region and go right back into supporting the youth living in our communities.”
Tickets are limited, and special ticket discounts can be registered for on Fun City Sliders’s website. Big Brothers Big Sisters plans to release volunteer and sponsorship opportunities within the coming weeks.
The event coincides with BBBS’s 32nd Anniversary, and will secure funds to support their ‘Go Girls’ and ‘Game On’ group mentoring programs.
The two-lane slide is 6 metres wide. It has a thick layer of foam underneath it for soft landings and a catch pool at the end for easy stopping.
