PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Northern Health Chief Medical Health Officer Dr. Sandra Allison says the increase in Hepatitis A cases in the Peace Region is very well contained in the Dawson Creek area.

Hepatitis A is a viral infection of the liver spread through fecal oral contact and the key public precaution is hand washing.

Symptoms can include: loss of appetite, fever, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, dark urine, clay-colored stools, joint pain and jaundice.

The symptoms can last for several weeks, but normally do not last more than two months.

If you’re experiencing them you’re encouraged to, contract HealthLink BC, at 8-1-1, call your local public health office, or speak to your family physician.
