Despite a 15th place finish at the Big Red volleyball tournament last weekend in Grande Prairie, there’s plenty to look forward to the rest of the volleyball season says the coach of the senior girls North Peace Secondary School volleyball team. The squad had a strong start to the event as they finished second in pool play, but weren’t able to carry it through the rest of the event.
Elena Schmidt said the team played well as a unit and it showed especially in their defensive play.
“I was pretty impressed with how well the grade 12’s and grade 11’s played together. Their overall teamwork was very good, at least on the Friday. They serve tough, they hustle pretty well to keep the ball in play, and have a pretty good base for having a strong defence.”
For her group to improve on their result last time out, they’re going to have to get more confident and consistent when it comes to their offensive attack.
“I think a little more consistency with putting the ball back over the net. Being a little bit more confident and in charge of the ball when their hitting it over, or placing it over the net,” Schmidt said.
The team will be in Whitecourt for another tournament this weekend looking to improve on their previous finish. The NPSS home tournament will be held October 16-17.
