Chetwynd Primary Care Clinic to expand appointment availability and welcome new Nurse Practicioner

As the Primary Care Clinic in Chetwynd has acquired more permanent physicians, locum physicians, and nurse practitioners over the past two months, Northern Health has announced they will be expanding the booked appointments available.

Services offered will include walk-in/same day appointments, booked appointments for followup, booked appointments for high risk patients, and prescription refills.

High risk patients include those with one or more chronic disease, heart or breathing problems, pregnant women, and frail seniors.

“As additional capacity becomes available at the clinic we will look at enhanced options for booking appointments.” Northern Health said in a press release.

The Chetwynd Primary Care Clinic will also have a new nurse practitioner to the team, to start on October 5th.

Kristan Ellis-MacDonald spent 11 years at Queen Elizabeth II hospital in Halifax, and was a travel nurse for Northern BC before she came to Chetwynd to join the team.

Nurse Practitioners can see patients for acute issues like a cold or injury, follow patients with chronic health issues like diabetes or high blood pressure, provide prenatal care, and do check-ups and physical exams.

With this addition, the interdisciplinary team will include three physicians and a nurse practitioner.

Two more full time physicians are expected to join the team in February 2016 and the fall of 2016 after completing the practice ready assessment.
