The Fort St. John Huskies wrapped up their final practice yesterday prior to the start of the NWJHL regular season. The team will be in Beaverlodge Sunday afternoon for their first of seven games in October.
Head coach Gary Alexander said his group of players had a good week of practice and is looking forward to seeing what they can do offensively in game action.
“I think we’re looking pretty good. We had a good practice. Tempo was up, attention span was great. Our offensive game looks pretty good.”
Despite being intrigued by the team’s offensive potential Alexander noted that if the Huskies don’t play smart defensively, what they do in terms of offence may not matter in the grand scheme of things.
“They’ve all got to pay a lot more attention to their defensive structure because they don’t have that big core that we’ve had in the last few years to rely on. It’s a big thing for them to pay attention in our end of the ice. You always have to look after your own end and the other end will look after itself.”
After Sunday’s game the Huskies will be on the ice at the North Peace Arena for their home opener on October 9 against Sexsmith at 8 p.m.
