RCMP issue speeding tickets in school zones, remind drivers to be more cautious

After a summer of relaxed speed limits around schools, some drivers have been caught speeding, says Cpl. Jodi Shelkie with the Fort St. John RCMP.

She couldn’t disclose how many tickets were actually issued, but she says the RCMP was out in full force last week looking for disobedient drivers.

Even this week, officers are out trying to educate drivers in school zones to keep the roads safe.

“We had members out doing education as well with drivers, just reminding drivers not to park in crosswalks, and not close to crosswalks … reminding people to come to complete stops.”

RCMP has also reminded people in the past that the speed limit around playgrounds is 30 km/hour from dawn until dusk, not from 8 AM to 5 PM as it is with school zones.
