OTTAWA — The New Democrats began the federal campaign today with a pre-emptive strike against the Liberals before a scheduled leaders’ debate on the economy.
At a news conference today Ottawa, the NDP said they have concluded the Liberal fiscal framework is faulty, overestimating personal income tax revenues by about $1 billion.
Andrew Thomson, an NDP candidate in Toronto and former Saskatchewan finance minister, says his party went to the trouble of doing its own costing of Liberal promises because the Grits have yet to do so.
The NDP released their fiscal plan Wednesday promising four surpluses, partly by increasing corporate tax rates, among other measures.
Conservative Jason Kenney, the defence minister, has also scheduled a news conference later today in Toronto to discuss campaign spending promises and the economy.
The three main party leaders are preparing for a debate hosted by the Globe and Mail in Calgary.
