SYDNEY, N.S. — Lawyers are expected to deliver closing arguments today in the trial of a Cape Breton teen charged with criminal negligence causing the death of an 18-year-old youth.
The 15-year-old defendant, who can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is accused of pushing Christopher Chafe under the wheels of a moving school bus outside Sydney Academy last winter.
Judge Peter Ross ruled earlier this week that portions of a recorded statement a teen witness gave to police will not be admitted as evidence.
Ross said the evidence could be seen speculation about what someone else saw or thought that day.
However, portions of the teen’s statement dealing with his recollection of what Chafe and the accused said just before the incident were allowed.
