Former Fort St. John City Councillor passes away

A wife, mother, grandmother,  former city councillor of twelve years and beloved figure in the community passed away over the weekend.

Jeanne Elizabeth Pryndik (Roberts), passed away at 86 on September 7th.

She is survived by her husband Alec, son John, daughter Kathie (Darrell) Holmes, and grandson Spencer.

She was born in Lacombe, Alberta to Jack and Cecil Roberts on November 18th 1928, and had one brother, Len.

After finishing high school, Jeanne moved on to Calgary. In 1952, she met Alec Pryndik, and the two were married in 1953.

Alec recalled fondly the happy memories they made living across Canada, coast to coast – in Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary, Hinton, Montreal, and St. John’s.

Moving to Fort St. John with her family in 1969, Jeanne became very involved in the community and was on city council from 1990 to 2002.

She was the president of the Oil Wives Club for quite a few years, involved in the Royal Canadian Legion, the MS Society, Cancer Society, Minor Ball, and Minor Hockey – just to name a few of her endeavours.

To many, she was also known as “Hot dog Jeanne” for her participation in her children’s hot dog days at school, and with Minor Ball.

Jeanne was also a lung cancer survivor, defeating the disease at the age of 80.

A recipient of the Order of Canada, The Service of Above Self Award in 2002 from the Rotary Club, and many other awards of Recognition for her Achievements, her family remembers her being a happy and loving member of the family, even in her remaining days.

There will be no service, as per Jeanne’s request. Instead, those wishing to express sympathy are asked to give one hour of volunteer service to better the community, and send her and the family a prayer.

Her full obituary is available here, where condolences can be left.
