Lawyers representing two northeastern B.C. Treaty 8 First Nations are in Provincial Supreme Court in Vancouver today as they continue to battle to halt construction of the Site C hydroelectric dam project on the Peace River.

The Prophet River and Moberly Lake First Nations want the court to issue a stop work order against B.C. Hydro, which has already started land clearing and road building work in the project area.

The court will also be asked to order a judicial review challenging the legality of Hydro’s permitting process, as the First Nations claim they were not properly consulted before permits and contracts were awarded.

The hearings are expected to continue Tuesday and Wednesday.
