Kody Disher may have joined the Fort St. John Huskies part way through last season, but the impact he had on the team was evident on and off the ice. As a way of recognizing his contributions last season, Disher will be captaining this year’s Huskies squad, starting with the team’s training camp at the end of August.
Assistant coach Todd Alexander said Disher has been nothing but a positive addition to the club when he came on board part way through last season.
“He made a good impact on the team last year when he was able to be in the line-up as he was playing from afar,” he said. “He’s a very committed individual. He’s an individual that not only talks about things but he backs them up not only with his fitness but his play on ice.”
Having Disher as captain brings a change in leadership style. The team’s captains over the past few years have been more of a lead by example type, while he tends to be more vocal.
“He’s also a very vocal leader in the dressing room as well,” Alexander said. “I think it’s something that we’ve been missing over the last few years. Nothing against the guys that we’ve had in the past but they’ve been more of the quiet type. I think we need a gentleman like Disher to step up to the plate and help out the coaching staff a little bit more.”
The Huskies are slated to be on the ice for the first time this season August 28-30 as the team begins their training camp for the 2015-2016 season.
