The provincial government has announced a new way to acknowledge outstanding citizens in British Columbia by unveiling the ‘Medal of Good Citizenship.’
In a press release the provincial government said that the medal, which was announced on July 31, will recognize citizens who have made outstanding contributions to the well-being of their communities without the expectation of a reward.
Residents are encouraged to nominate anyone who fits the criteria, which will be rewarded on an annual basis. This years round for nominations is set to close on Sept. 25.
The medal itself will feature British Columbia shield, floral emblem with the words ‘generosity, service and selflessness.’
“This medal will honour our most community-minded citizens: the people working in non-profits, volunteering their free time and continuously striving to make their community a better place,” Teresa Wat, Minister of International Trade and Asia Pacific Strategy Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism said in the release.
There’s no age limit for nominees as nominators are encouraged to identify inspiring youth within their community.
