It was a soggy end to the 2015 Peace Country Open yesterday at Lakepoint Golf and Country Club but that didn’t stop competitors from finishing their rounds. Travis Eggers repeated as champion and winning on the ladies side was Cheryl Lequiere.

The tournament was played in a match play format, and Eggers had an easy time in his final round against Stefan Brandmann as the win was sealed after 13 holes.

“I played fairly consistently. Started off with a strong birdie on one. Two I had a couple of good shots and Stefan had some troubles. I got up early and just plugged along,” he said. “I managed to keep the ball on the right side of the pin most of the week. That was really the reason I played well.”

Registration was down a bit compared to last year but despite that course general manager Troy Knight said it remains a highlight on the yearly calendar and is optimistic about good turnouts going forward.

“It’s one of our marquee events,” he stated. “Unfortunately numbers have been down but the way the economy and things are this year these kind of events seem to be a bit down all over the place. We had a really good time this year and we’re hoping the momentum will build and we’ll get some numbers back moving forward.”
