Weather helping forest fire conditions

Wet weather over the past number of days has been a big help to crews battling forest fires in the Prince George Fire Centre. Fire information officer Jill Kelsh said rain in the Fort Nelson and Fort St. John zones have had an impact in the battle, and should continue to do so if the forecast over the coming days comes to fruition.

“At this point we have seen quite a bit of help especially up in the northern portion. We haven’t picked up a lot of new fires in that area. So far we are looking good. If the rain does come like predicted over the next 24-48 hours then we shouldn’t see very many new fire starts with the lightning.”

Should the cool and wet weather currently forecasted present itself over the next week, Kelsh said the fire ban that’s in place may be reviewed.
