The Independent Investigations Office released an update today on their investigation of the shooting death of James Daniel McIntyre by members of the Dawson Creek RCMP. In the update the IIO states that investigators are still on scene gathering more information.
Some of the tasks undertaken by the IIO include: obtaining physical evidence from the scene, interviewing civilian witnesses, designating and interviewing officers, reviewing video from the scene and from witnesses, and interviewing the affected person’s family.
It has been reported to the IIO that the individual approached officers in an aggressive manner and after he failed to comply with commands he was shot.
It’s said that the investigation will examine the actions of officers and the individual.
The IIO notes that specific information will not be released as a means of making sure that witness information is provided without influence, and the integrity of the investigation remains.
