Ice making to be delayed at Pomeroy Sport Centre

The City of Fort St. John has issued a release this morning stating that ice making at the Pomeroy Sport Centre will be delayed as a result of job action from the BCGEU. The release states that on July 20 the City was served notice by the BCGEU for the immediate withdrawal of services by non-picketing employees to install, maintain, or work on any task relating to the installation or maintenance of the ice surfaces.

As a result it’s noted that there will not be prepared ice in time for the North Peace Alumni Hockey School that’s scheduled for August 10-14 at the facility, and that it is probable that there will be further disruptions to events scheduled on the ice.

The process of creating the ice in the building takes 14-21 days.
